The golden age of 33 and 45 RPM records is generally considered to be the 1950s and 1960s. This era saw the 45 RPM format, introduced by RCA Victor in 1949, become the dominant medium for hit songs and popular music. The 45s offered a smaller, more durable, and affordable alternative to the older 78 RPM records, perfectly suited for the rise of rock 'n' roll and other popular genres of the time.
