Three Musketeers Candy Bar
By Bruce Shawkey
One of my favorite candy bars growing up was the Three Musketeers candy bar. The nougat center was whipped up and fluffy, giving me the illusion I was getting the maximum amount of chocolate for my money, which was a nickel at the time. The Three Musketeers candy bar was introduced by the Mars, Inc. in 1932. Originally, the bar was marketed as three pieces in one package, each piece flavored differently—chocolate, strawberry, and vanilla—hence the name "Three Musketeers." However, during World War II, the bar was changed to a single chocolate-flavored piece due to rationing of sugar and other ingredients.
The bar is known for its light and fluffy whipped nougat center, which is coated in a layer of milk chocolate. It's one of the lighter candy bars in terms of texture, which sets it apart from denser bars like Snickers or Milky Way. Despite its name, the bar has nothing to do with the famous novel by Alexandre Dumas, but rather the original three flavors that it once featured.
It's a popular candy bar in the United States and can often be found in grocery stores, vending machines, and convenience stores.
